Job Description:
At University of New Mexico - Hospitals, we are committed to

health/psychiatric environment.As a Clinical Psychiatric Nursing
Specialist, you will be responsible for providing professional
nursing care to assigned patients, designing nursing care plans,
and assisting in the development of overall care plans for
psychiatric patients.Some of your key responsibilities will
include:
- Interviewing, examining, and assessing the health status of
psychiatric patients with various cognitive, emotional,
developmental, social, and behavioral disorders.
- Observing patient behavior, activities, and mental status,
performing triage and crisis intervention.
- Writing treatment plans, coordinating patient drug and
procedure activities, administering medication and treatment,
providing and coordinating nursing care of assigned patients, and
facilitating group therapy and/or education sessions.
- Charting and reporting observed symptoms, reactions,
treatments, and changes in the patients' conditions, collecting and
documenting data and information, and performing computerized data
entry.
- Performing nursing intakes, drawing blood and other patient
specimens, and performing or coordinating laboratory tests.
- Educating patients and families on treatment regimens,
management of side effects, and compliance with the treatment
plans, providing emotional support, and acting as an advocate for
patients and families.
- Providing information and facilitating communication between
physicians, medical students, staff, patients, families, and
community, coordinating and consulting with a milieu of service
providers.
- Following established departmental policies, procedures, and
objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety,
environmental, and/or infection control standards.
- Enhancing professional growth and development through
participation in educational programs, reading current literature,
attending in-services, meetings, and workshops.
- Performing various administrative functions, such as monitoring
expenditures and preparing reports and correspondence, and
participating in a variety of research projects to develop service
plans.
- Participating in orientation and assuming precepting and
evaluation responsibilities of new personnel.
- Assisting with special tests and procedures, ensuring proper
consent has been obtained, and assisting with or instituting
emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in
patients.
- Administering medication, including IV medication, via the
Seven Rights, documenting and communicating clinical findings,
maintaining a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for
patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards.
- FOLLOWING PATIENT SAFETY-RELATED POLICIES, PROCEDURES, AND
PROTOCOLS.
- REPORTING POTENTIAL OR ACTUAL PATIENT SAFETY CONCERNS, MEDICAL
ERRORS, AND/OR NEAR MISSES IN A TIMELY MANNER.
- ENCOURAGING PATIENTS TO ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN THEIR OWN CARE
BY ASKING QUESTIONS AND REPORTING TREATMENT OR SITUATIONS THAT THEY
DON'T UNDERSTAND OR MAY NOT SEEM RIGHT.We are looking for a team
